The 2 Phase Solution

JP Logistics Solutions is an experienced shipper to and from the Caribbean with more than 75 years of industry expertise.

The company provides the full range of services for both commercial and private import/export customers, at very competitive prices. These include collection and delivery, timely customs clearance, document origination and processing, road and sea transport, as well as warehousing and packing. Together, these form a seamless door-to-door solution for all shipping needs.

The main UK warehouse at Rainham in Essex was beginning to creak under the strain of continued growth in both inward and outward deliveries, and the sheer volume of movements within the existing space; with potential impact on service and timings unless action was taken.

Phase 1: Vertical Expansion

With space in the existing warehouse at a premium, and no opportunity to expand locally, Phase One of the project aimed to make better use of the space that was available. The ideal solution was a bespoke Mezzanine Floor, that would allow storage of packaging materials and barrels in the “dead space” above the in-situ office accommodation.

Phase 2: Ground-Level Restructure

Phase Two centred on the re-organisation of the remaining floor plan. Erecting three runs of TOPREGAL Pallet Racking, fitted with wooden board decks; once more making for efficient and effective use of the vertical space within the warehouse.

TOPREGAL provided on-site consultancy and proposed a tailored solution with detailed scale site drawings to illustrate the potential gains. Upon approval, the new Racking was delivered and installed within four working days, again with minimal disruption to ongoing operations at JP Logistics’ warehouse.

Foreseeing additional workload, personnel and FLT movements, TOPREGAL installed both Anti-collapse mesh and a Safety barrier run to segregate traffic and provide clear work channels; increasing efficiency and operational speed whilst enhancing colleague safety.

Making Space for What’s Next

Gary Phillips sums up the relationship between the two companies:
