Truss

This term originates from the building industry and was probably derived from the Middle High German word "Vach" (wickerwork). The walls are formed by beams that are visible from the outside (wickerwork or beam skeleton). The free gaps between the beams are filled in this construction method, e.g. with bricks. This construction method is used in the building industry, for example, because of its low dead weight compared to other constructions. The strong appearance of the truss due to the single visible bars could be a possible disadvantage. It is also used in the automotive industry, e.g. for chassis.
